I rated this two and that was generous. I was debating on giving it only one, but it wasn't THAT bad. Overall I really felt that the writing was immature, the characters weren't developed and the world building was none existent. In the fantasy genre, world building is crucial, in my opinion anyway. There was a good premise to the story and I liked the idea of what this book could have been, but the author missed opportunities to delve into the world of the Angels. Instead she barely scratched surface of the paranormal aspects and focused more on the "romance"...if that's what you want to call it. The level of romance in this book is lukewarm at best, so it's safe for younger teen readers.
The Angel, Sterling, is very immature. Especially for someone who is supposed to be over 700 years old. Not to mention that he's been helping and mentoring humans for 700 years, so I don't understand how he can be so childish and jealous. That doesn't make sense to me. The female lead, Claire, was full of teenage angst as one would expect of a 17 year old. Throw in a few crazy and obsessed exes on both sides and we have tons of drama. Good drama? Not necessarily.
I usually don't like to nitpick a book to death, but there were so many grammatical errors that I had to mention it. So if you're a stickler for that, this book will bother you.
On the plus side, I did enjoy some of the conversations that Claire and Sterling had. I found myself chuckling at their banter. I also thought that the secondary characters Ariana and Argento were really good. They both really added to the story and made Sterling a little more acceptable. He is almost like their younger brother. I also can appreciate the fact that Claire's parents and family were around. The family and their thoughts on Claire's relationships were very realistic and I always can appreciate a story that can balance a little realism with fantasy.
Overall I thought that this story had great potential. I only wished that the writing was more mature and Sterling and Claire's characters were more flushed out. Also, as I mentioned earlier, I would have loved to experience more of the world of Angels. That would have added an amazing edge to the story. An editor would have been a great addition as well. However, if you're looking for a fun, light and easy read without substantial conflict or too much going on, then this would be a good choice.

Cloud Nine A Paranormal Romance of the Guardians of Man #1 edition by Melissa A Smith Romance eBooks Reviews
I was very disappointed with this book after reading the reviews and expecting a good book. It was not. It is certainly written for young readers. Ms. Smith evidently enjoyed the Twilight series and wanted to create something similar. It was far too similar and without the talent of Ms. Meyer who was able to send us into the fantasy realm of vampires and make them believable and complex. Ms. Smith's Guardians are neither believable nor complex. Her guardians are merely humans who can materialize and de-materialize and read people's thoughts, as long as the person doesn't block their thoughts with an imagined lock. You would expect a spiritual and guardian being to be lofty and capable. It is easier to imagine Ms. Smith's beings in a middle school's cafeteria than a heavenly Court. The scenes are wordy, repetitive, and predictable.
What if there were special guardians, placed on earth to help people in need? They might not be human. They might have their own rules that guide them. What if a non-human guardian finds he has special feelings for his charge. What if his teenage charge reciprocated. This is their story.
Wonderful romance for young people. The teenage angst, the friends, the family, all are embroiled in the tale.
I made it to chapter 10 and gave up. I can't read anymore. The interactions and dialog between the characters are so silly and immature. The scenes are long and drawn out without any depth, it all feels too surface level and shallow for my taste.
I loved this book, it was so different and refreshing. I saw paranormal romance and thought 'okay, here we go again,' but the description caught me. It was unusual not like a vampire or a demon. The love interests? A guardian, who first surfaces as a cloud. Yes, an invisible cloud. The point of view changes between our cloud guardian Sterling, who changes to a human to accompany his charge's want. Like a guardian angel, or a fairy god mother, he is supposed to be there to make her life easier.
However, that's not really what happens. This doesn't turn into a wishing genie, it becomes a romance. That romance leads to trouble, for the both of them. When I reached the end and saw there was another book in the series I about leaped for joy. I can't wait to read Book II when it comes out.)
If you are into opposing viewpoints and men/women doing the polar opposites then coming together, this book might not be for you. If you are looking for a soothing romance, then it probably is. Foul language is rare in this book, and it's a pleasant read that will give you funny tingles.
I bought it on smash but bought it here too. Couldn't help myself, want it for both my readers. Never know what happens in the future. Hopefully a paperback comes out one day.
I've spent my entire life wishing I had a Guardian Angel.
I've finally found it here, within the talentled author's prose, our own Ms. Melissa Smith. Her book, Silver Lining is a definite, feel good read.
This book has been spinning around my brain for over a year. I re-read it when I eat my lunch and I'm relaxing, but more importantly, I read Silver Lining when I want a story to make me feel all is well in the world.
This heavenly story keeps me entertained, no matter how many times I read it, and I'm so grateful Melissa's book, Silver Lining, has the power to do this.
The plot is imaginative, the characters believable, and who wouldn't want a guardian angel in the guise of a puppy? I was hooked, as I am with all of Ms. Smith's books. She's a gifted story teller, a wordsmith extraordinaire, and actually does formatting for her peers, or so I've been told.
For fantasy readers, I think her book stands on its own merit. I highly recommand this lovely story and I hope you trust me enough to look into this one, people. I promise you won't be disappointed. )
